    Where all begins…

    Learn and Play
At Alegra British School we are convinced that the Learn & Play model encourages young children to learn through play and by taking part in well-planned and well-structured activities. Teaching at this stage is based on children’s experiences, through which they learn in a completely natural way. We are 100% in favour of the Hands-on philosophy: learning is as much in doing as in reading and seeing.

    Read Write Inc
Alegra uses the Read Write Inc developed by Ruth Miskin, which provides a structured and systematic approach to teaching literacy. It is used by more than a quarter of the UK’s primary schools and is designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers. Read Write Inc. Phonics is a complete literacy programme, for 4 to 7 year-olds learning to read and write and for 7 and 8 year-olds needing to catch up quickly.

    Evaluation through observation
In the Infant School, observation by teachers is the key factor in evaluating the progress of the individual children in the different learning areas. This evaluation is an essential part of the future planning of the curriculum of each child and of his/her learning objectives.
At this stage, support by the parents is vital to progress at school. We therefore strive to maintain an ongoing contact with parents throughout the stage.

“Our goal at the end of
    the Reception year is to
    have 90% of readers,
    writers and speakers in
    the British language”
